A survey in an East London school found that nearly half the Bengali pupils and more than a quarter of the African-Caribbean children had been bullied in a three-month period. Some are murdered by Whites. But especially horrible is the fact that the suicide rate increases because of racial suppression. There is not just suppression from youngsters, but also from teachers. You can see that by the studies from 1995 which showed that black children were ten times more likely than white children to be excluded from school. Another study of 1400 pupils proves that African-Caribbean after they took GCSE they performed as well as the pupils and Asian pupils did even better than the whites. Blacks are more ambitious concerning their post-compulsory education. Do not think that Blacks are angels. They are people like you and me. So you can also find them in jails. The proportion of black people in British prisons is l6%, whereas only 5.5% of the population is black. But if we are to seek the truth of the matter it is racial and social factors we should examine and not the biological and the genetic. Although they show more serious charges for the same offence than white men, they appear to be given longer sentences, on average, than their white counterparts. What many people do not realise is that black people are more likely to be the victims of crime than white people. 1994 a black British newspaper found that 67.5% of people knew some one who had experienced physical abuse by police officer; 40% had personally experienced racial abuse from an officer and 78% believe that police treated a crime in which the victims was white more seriously than one with a black victim. For black people the power that prison officers and police men hold over them can have a devastating effect. So far, no officer has been punished for any of these incidents. In general you can say (according to Human Rights Watch), the UK now has one of the highest levels of racial violence anywhere in Europe. There is, however, a clause in the Public Order Act against speeches or writings which are likely to incite racial hatred. It is rarely used - and successful convictions are even rarer. In 1994, for example, only one successful prosecution was brought and only 132 have been brought since 1989.
